Chevron

I know the Chevron pattern is a total trend, but I love it so much.  It just adds something to a room.

Today we're headed to the zoo!  Then I hope to get as many projects done as I can this weekend.  I'm getting things together to start my summer long project.  More details on Monday!

Moving Announcements

We made it!  Rilo and I landed in Chicago yesterday and met up with Adam at our new apartment.  Rilo was a dream...she slept the ENTIRE 3 hour flight.  I was so thankful!

We're only here for the summer, but if we were moving permanently, I would definitely be sending out little cards with our new address.  Here are some moving announcements I like:

Nursery Additions and Chicago

Adam's job sends us to a different city each summer.  This year we are headed to Chicago!  In years past we have been to St. Louis (where our car was stolen) and Miami (where it was way too hot/humid to enjoy life).  I have never been to Chicago (besides the 5000 times I've had a layover there) but I have heard great things about the city.  Any recommendations for things to do, see and eat!?  I would love to hear them!

Knowing that we are leaving somehow gave me a push to finish up a couple of projects in Rilo's room.  We hung letters spelling her name above the closet.  The letters were on sale at Urban Outfitters and then we spray painted them white.

Next, I hung a shadowbox I got at Michael's for $4.  The original plan was to order a little wooden clock, but it was out of stock for a few weeks and then I never got around to ordering it.  The dead space was killing me, so I hung up the shadowbox and put in little vintage salt and pepper shakers.  It will do for now!

On Monday I should be ready to tell you about a summer long project I am going to be doing.  It's going to be fun for me, and hopefully fun for you to read about!  Wish me luck as I fly with Rilo to Chicago today!

CSN Giveaway Winner

I'm excited to announce the winner of the plate set!  Thank you to CSN for this fun giveaway!  Here's a little hint on who won.  They picked these plates...

To make things fair, I put everyone into a spreadsheet so I could make sure I accounted for those of you who were already signed up as followers, etc.  Then I used the random number generator to get the results.  And the magic number was 5.

And number 5 in the spreadsheet was...

Last Day for the CSN Giveaway

Don't forget to enter the plate set giveaway!  You have until tonight at 11:59 MST!  Good luck!

Fashion Vault

Have you heard of eBay's Fashion Vault?  Certain designers offer their products for a heavily discounted price...but only for a few days.  And even though it's eBay, the products are new, not used.  Right now they have Paper, Denim & Cloth jeans for only $39.99 + free shipping!  They're normally $120 jeans, so it's quite a deal.  I have a pair of their jeans and I love them!  They are really soft and fit really well.  You have until April 28th to snag a pair!

Lots of other styles to choose from and they even have mens jeans.  Shhh...don't tell Adam but I ordered him a pair!

The Weekend + A Video

My sweet husband surprised me with an early anniversary date this weekend.  He had a friend come over to watch Rilo while we went on a picnic.  We picked up SLAB pizza and went to a nice grassy spot.  After our dinner, we ate delicious cupcakes from the Sweet Tooth Fairy, drank some Martinelli's and I opened my present...a Canon video camera!  I love it because I've been wanting to make little videos, but my iPhone is the old version, without video capabilities.  Now I can make fun family videos!  (Remember when you would have to watch hours and hours of tapes of home videos?  And remember those tourists who would film all the stars on the street in Hollywood and all the scenery?  Do you think they ever watched that?!  Thank goodness I can just download the video to my computer and edit the videos...so much nicer!)

Isn't this the most perfect picnic basket?  It was a birthday gift from Adam last September.  He is the ultimate gift giver!

And on an unrelated tangent:
Here's a video I've been seeing all over the blogosphere.  If you haven't seen this video yet, you must watch it!  It is the new theme song for a "smart girl" talk show called "The Girls With Glasses", with Brooke White (American Idol) and Summer Bellessa (ELIZA magazine).  I am in LOVE with every single dress in the video.  They are supposed to be coming out with the source list soon and I can't wait!  I seriously have watched the video several times just to look at the dresses again.

*Last day to enter the giveaway is tomorrow!*

House Tour: Bedroom

The bedroom is where the big changes have happened.  Not so much in terms of the decor, but in the function and layout of the room.  I'll refresh you with some before pictures:

Here you can see the door to the closet.  The closet actually extends to the right, along the wall where the dresser is, only it was about a foot and half deep.  So if you wanted to get to the end of the closet, you had to shimmy against the dresser wall.  It was a pain for Adam to try to get his clothes, so he ended up just using Rilo's room as a closet.  So not usable at all! You can also see the plain wood jewelry box from Ikea.  Boring!

Here you can see the window to the right of the bed that actually looks into a little storage area attached to the house.  Really pointless to have a window there...Unless you like checking out your lawn mower every morning.

And here is how it looks now!  A functional, amazing closet that I am thankful for every day!

We added another dresser since Adam and I both have a ton of clothes.  Someday I will make up my mind about whether I want to restain the dresser or paint it.  I also hung the inflatable heart Adam got me for Valentine's day last year.  It makes me happy!

Jewelry holder made from a frame and a radiator screen.

My new pretty bedspread and a windowless wall on the right!  It makes the room feel so much larger without the window there.  I don't love the layout of the room, but we have a wall of windows, a closet wall and the entrance to our room has huge sliding doors.  We're left with one wall to put our bed on.  If we center the bed, then the flow of the room is interrupted.  So against the windows it is..

Well that about wraps up the house tour.  I'll wait to show our kitchen until September when we give it a major overhaul.  And if you want to check out Rilo Jane's room, click the link up on the top left!  Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!  We'll be packing up for our summer move to Chicago.  Don't forget to enter the giveaway!

Houe Tour: Office

*Sorry about all of the technical difficulties this morning!  First all of my photos disappeared on my blog and then this scheduled post never posted!  I think I've fixed it all now!*

It wasn't that long ago that I posted the Before/Afters of our office makeover, but in case you missed it, here are the pictures again!  I probably should've re-shot these images since I've downsized the amount of books in the shelf and rearranged (talk about way too cluttered in the photo) and have changed out the seasonal paper in the clock since it's not Thanksgiving anymore.  Oh well...

I'm really excited for this giveaway!  I was recently contacted by someone at csnstores.com to hold a giveaway.  You may see lots more of these pop up on other blogs as they are launching a great marketing campaign.  I had never even heard of CSN until this email but I'm glad I know about it now!  CSN has over 200+ online stores with pretty much anything in the world you could ever want.  Cookware, shoes, beds, rugs, etc. etc. etc.  I found myself stuck on their site allmodern.com for quite some time, seeing what they had to offer.

I'm currently lusting after these pillows.

And wondering what I could wallpaper with the Graham and Brown paper...

But on to the giveaway...in honor of my love for pretty plates, I'm giving away a set of 4 salad plates.  But the best part?  The winner gets to pick from 5 different designs.  The plates are 8.5" porcelain plates ($43 value)  and would be great to decorate, entertain or just eat with!  Here are you options:

House Tour: Dining Room

I'm still in love with our dining room table.  It's an old farmhouse table, complete with all of the original chairs.  I don't know if I'll ever be able to get rid of it!  Since last year, the dining room has gained more plates on the plate wall and pillows on the bench.

The next step is to have my friend Mary come out here and paint a big canvas for our large and very empty wall!  And someday I'll have Adam build me a little buffet table to go under the plates.

And speaking of plates, please stop by later today to enter another awesome giveaway!!

House Tour: Living Room

And here begins the house tour!  Our house was built in 1908.  I love old houses but they do not come without weird quirky things.  But I think that is precisely why I like them. So much character!

For the most part, the living room has stayed the same as a year ago when I last posted.  We did add the blue chair, the black lamp and a few things to the shelves.  On my list of things to do when come back from the summer is to add more pictures to the wall and to change the layout.  It's way too symmetrical and it's driving me nuts just looking at it!

We also had the hardest time figuring out what to do with the TV.  We have a fireplace in the room, but it doesn't even have a flue so we didn't want to use it.  We thought about hanging it above the fireplace, but then it would be too high...We thought about putting it on the wall where the bookshelf is, but then it would interrupt the flow of traffic to the kitchen.  We even thought about putting it in a corner in between our kitchen and bathroom on a corner TV stand, but that just wouldn't work either.  We finally decided to block the fireplace with the TV, and I like the placement for the most part.  I won't be showing it though because who really wants to see my TV?!

And yes, this coat rack is definitely the Leaning Tower of Pisa after removing the coats.  But just look how cool my front windows are!

*I know I just did a giveaway last week, but stay tuned because I have another fun giveaway coming up this week!*
