Along the Way...

If you've ever traveled with a newborn, you must know that it takes you several more hours to arrive at your destination. We stopped about every 2-3 hours to feed and snuggle Rilo. It was nice for us to get out and stretch our legs and take in the scenery.

Along the CA-58 is a little town called Tehachapi (my great-grandma would tell you there is a woman's prison there), that is so beautiful. It is full of green rolling hills, with a house on each hill. It was like something out of a movie. I wish I could've taken a picture of the houses on the hills, but I did get some pretty photos of all the green.

In addition to all of the pretty places we stopped, we also stopped at some not so pretty places. Ones with mattresses along the side of the road (yikes!). And dead animal skulls.

Hand sanitizing was very necessary after this stop...

Living Room Seating

A few months ago, we were looking for a big comfy chair to go in our living room. I had the hardest time finding something I liked. I finally found one that works great in the room.

However, I just spotted this most perfect chair for our living room, from Crate and Barrel. It's in the right color palatte...grey, yellow and an aqua type blue. Too bad!

While we're talking about great patterned chairs, here are some others I like. This one is from Pottery Barn.

This one is kinda funky, from Urban Outfitters.

Love this gorgeous chair from Anthro.
And while this isn't an upholstered chair...I am dying to figure out a place to use these chairs, from West Elm.

Sawyer Sitting

We were gone for nearly a week last week visiting Rilo's Great-Great Grandma and her Great-Grandpa. It was a spur of the minute trip and we realized we needed someone to watch Sawyer. Luckily, my friend Allison was willing to house/dog sit for us (again)! From what I hear, I think Sawyer might actually be sad that we are home. He went nearly everywhere with her...met new friends, tried out new parks and lots of other fun things that he has not had the chance to do since the new arrival in our house.

Yep, I think he had fun! Jessica took these awesome pictures of Sawyer and co. at the park. If you like to look at pretty pictures, then you must go take a peek at her photography blog.

Sneak Peek

I know, I know...I keep promising the bathroom pictures. And it's done, BUT we went out of town (we left Tuesday, thank goodness for pre-blogging), so I didn't have a chance to snap some nice pictures. I don't want to be full of empty promises, so here are a few details of the bathroom.
Since we still had a big chunk of the Amazon gift card left, we went with this light fixture instead of the one I originally picked out from Overstock.

Pottery Barn towel.

And I decided to snag a Waffle Shower Curtain, also from Amazon.

Hope you enjoy your weekend!

Elastic Band Skirt

I posted a little while back about the great tutorial over on Freshly Picked for an elastic band skirt. I still do not have my waist back yet, so I made one for Rilo. Another really fast and easy sewing project!

I visited my friend Jess recently. She saw the tutorial and decided to make one for her little girl too. We both happened to pick out the same fabric, just in different colors! Great minds think alike I guess!! So now Josie and Rilo will have little matching skirts for the summer.

Stromboli Recipe

Or Stramboni, as Adam calls it. I never had Stromboli until I moved to Pennsylvania...so if you're wondering what the heck it is, you are most likely not from the east coast! Stromboli is a pizza-like dish, close to a calzone. And guess what? It is so so soooo easy to make. This is my go-to quick dish. About 5 minutes of prep time and about 15 minutes of cooking time. Easy I tell you!

Here's what you need:
1 pkg. pizza dough (or french loaf dough)
your choice of sliced cheeses
your choice of meat
your choice of veggies
olive oil
Italian seasoning

This time I used mozzarella, provolone ham and pepperoni. You really can use whatever you want/have on hand. Salami, canadian bacon, sausage can be added for you meat lovers, or for a vegetarian option, try broccoli, peppers and cheese.

First step is to unroll the pizza dough to a rectangle shape onto a cookie sheet.

Next lay down your first layer of cheese down the middle, lengthwise.

Then add your meat (or veggies or both) on top of the cheese layer.

Another round of cheese on top.

Fold and pinch your seams together down the middle and on the sides.

Flip it over so the seam is touching the baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle Italian seasoning to your liking. Cut a few small slits in the top.

Then bake according to the packaged dough. My oven works fast, so I only cook it for about 13 minutes until it's nice and golden brown. Slice on a diagonal and serve. I always dip mine in a spaghetti sauce and serve it with some salad. Delicious!

Ruffle Bottom Onesies

This may be one of the easiest sewing projects yet, but they turn out so cute. It mainly requires 3 steps: cutting strips of fabric, basting/gathering and then sewing on the strips. If you want a great tutorial, with 3 different ways to make these, check out the blog Crap I've Made.

{This is straight out of the dryer. Don't mind the fact that I need to iron it a bit so it doesn't look so lopsided...when it's not so bunched it looks normal!}

Here's a picture taken from Crap I've Made that shows how cute they are on little bottoms.
Can't wait until the little girl fits into hers! I plan on making a few more since they are so easy!

Hart + Sew

My friend Stacy has the sweetest vintage baby/toddler clothing Etsy shop, Hart + Sew. I just received this adorable little yellow sweater for Rilo's Easter outfit. I'm debating on using a dress she already has or sewing one...I'll have to see what I can come up with!

Stacy's shop has lots of girl AND boy vintage clothes. Check out these adorable little saddle shoes! So cute.

You can check out her Etsy shop here and her blog here.

I have a couple of sewing projects, a recipe AND the bathroom lined up to post for this week! Can't wait to share!

Happy Cows Come From...

...Spring City, UT?!

This is our cow. We helped to purchase this cow! It was a very happy cow. It roamed free and grazed as it pleased. No hormones, no cruel conditions, just a happy, happy cow hanging out in Spring City! Especially now that I'm responsible for feeding myself and Rilo, I have made an effort to really watch what goes into my body. I'm trying to eat lots of fruits, veggies, nuts and now...happy cow too! I've seen lots of the terrible videos of the treatment of some of the animals we eat, and maybe you have too. If I'm going to eat meat, I like the idea that it was treated nicely and wasn't pumped up with all the crazy chemicals. Hooray for happy cows!

Hope you have a great weekend! Cross your fingers that the bathroom will be complete Monday!

Haiti

I stumbled upon the blog for Amelia Lyon Photography over a year ago. Shortly thereafter I had one of those weird blogging moments. You know, one of those moments where you completely recognize someone and think that you know them. And then you realize you only know them through their blog. Then you have to decide if you want to say something and possibly come off as a complete weirdo or just go about your merry way without saying a thing. Amelia and Justin, the husband and wife photography team, live near Adam's sister in California. Luckily when I ran into them, Justin was very nice and I didn't end up regretting my decision to say hi.

Anyway, the point to all of this is...have you seen Justin's photos and read the stories from his recent trip to Haiti? So emotional and so beautiful. You must check out his post.
